Hygge

I’ve recently begun reading “My Hygge Home: How to Make Home Your Happy Place” — wow have I been seeking and curating these treasured moments for most of my recent years. How especially critical to be mindful of creating Hygge for people like me who deal with depression and anxiety.

Hygge is a feeling, a state of mind, it can be used playfully as a verb. So why am I talking about this here on my organizing page?

Hygge is not chaos. It’s not clutter and mess and piles and busyness. It’s intentional. It’s comfort and coziness and connection. These are the things that matter most, right?

Think about the way you Hygge currently in your life, or how you could take an ordinary activity and boost its Hygge.

One of my favorite moments of Hygge with my family is leisurely Saturday mornings, and it includes these simple delights (it doesn’t always happen with all these details but when it does it is the best):

  • my bride and my toddler cozied up in the big bed under a big, fluffy down comforter

  • the blinds open slightly to let natural light in

  • coffee and then more coffee

we sit on opposite ends of the bed facing each other, toes touching (usually my cold feet are cozy in alpaca socks)

intentional eye contact, breathing into the moment, conversation, silence, peace, being

How do you Hygge at home? What kinds of ways can you bring these beautiful, intentional moments of simple and cozy living into your everyday life? Into your daily routines and your role in the house, and also into your relationships?
